Last updated: 31/08/2025

Contact

Labour for Trans Rights ("we", "our", "us") is a grassroots campaign within the Labour movement. We are committed to protecting your personal information and respecting your privacy. This notice explains what personal data we collect and why, the bases on which we use it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Labour for Trans Rights is a grassroots, volunteer‑led campaign bringing together trans people and allies to organise, build power, and demand change. If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your information, please email us at labourfortransrights@gmail.com.

What information we collect

  • Contact details (e.g. name, email address, phone number, social handle) you provide when you sign up for updates, volunteer, donate, RSVP to events, or contact us.
  • Campaign engagement (e.g. petition signatures, event attendance, volunteering activity, roles or interests you share with us).
  • Communications you send to us (e.g. emails, messages, forms) and our responses, for record‑keeping and follow‑up.
  • Technical information from your device when you use our website (e.g. IP address, pages visited, browser type) via cookies or similar technologies, used for basic analytics and site security.
  • Special category data (optional) — only if you choose to disclose it to us for campaign purposes — may include information that reveals or relates to gender identity, sexual orientation, trade union membership, or political opinions. We treat such data with extra care and only process it with your explicit consent or where another UK GDPR condition applies.

How we use your information

  • To send you updates about our campaign, events, and ways to get involved.
  • To organise volunteers and coordinate activities you sign up for.
  • To respond to enquiries and support requests.
  • To run petitions, surveys, and grassroots actions you participate in.
  • To improve our website, communications, and digital security.

We will never sell your data.

Who we share your information with

We may share personal data with trusted service providers who help us deliver our campaign (for example, email delivery, event management, analytics, or secure data storage). These providers only process your information on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.

We will not share your personal data with the Labour Party or any other organisation without your consent, unless required by law.

International transfers

Some service providers may store or process data outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA). Where that happens, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place — for example, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision — to protect your rights.

How long we keep your data

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to achieve the purposes set out in this notice, or until you ask us to delete it. We review supporter data periodically and delete or anonymise it when it is no longer needed. You can unsubscribe from emails or request deletion at any time.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Request deletion of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Restrict or object to certain types of processing.
  • Receive your data in a portable format, where applicable.
  • Withdraw consent at any time (this won’t affect prior lawful use).
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data — see ico.org.uk.

To exercise these rights, contact us at labourfortransrights@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before we act on your request.

Cookies

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to measure basic usage (analytics). You can control cookies through your browser settings or via any cookie banner we provide. For more details, see our Cookie Notice (if available) or contact us.

How we protect your data

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or loss. While no system is ever completely secure, we aim to limit access to personal data to trained volunteers and service providers who need it for campaign purposes.

Changes to this policy

We may update this notice from time to time. Significant changes will be highlighted on our website, and the effective date at the top will be updated.
